Probably one of the more interesting announcements at this year’s CES (held in Las Vegas) is the new Palm Pre. Initially only available in EV-DO, Palm have hinted at a GSM/3G version being released outside of the US later. This device has the following features:
- QWERTY Slide Keyboard
- 3.1″ 320×480 display
- gesture controls
- micro USB card slot
- USB storage support
- 3.5mm headphone jack
- 3megapixel digital camera
- LED flash
- running Nova OS
With the addition of the keyboard and gesture controls, this device seems to offer a potential alternative to theand Android based phones, and brings Palm back onto the map in terms of smartphones. Apparently all the applications are built with JS, CSS and HTML making the possibility of third party versions of the apps plausible.
Also key to showing great integration is the optional wireless charging station Palm have also announced…
More details available only from the Palm US website right now, although we believe we’ll be seeing this in the UK before the year is out.
Update: Palm have now stated that the Pre should be available in the first half of the year in a GSM/3G version too.
