Garmin Nuviphone

It appears this phone is still on schedule to be released early this year (having been delayed from last year), and it’s already got FCC approval, which at least implies the hardware is fixed, even if Garmin are still tweaking the software.  However, more interesting is that Garmin have joined the Open Handset Alliance, and have stated they have an Android based phone under development, which is likely to be released in the second half of this year.  Garmin have also restated that the first nuviphone will not be Android based.

It’s nice to see Garmin having joined the OHA, and it will be interesting to see how these phones compete in a much more crowded marketplace than when they first announced their plans.

It’s also likely that Garmin will not be announcing any further details of the nuviphone at CES later this week, but we’ll keep you informed as and when we have more information.
