New Nokia apps

Nokia Communication Center

Firstly, Nokia have released an early beta of a concept they are calling the Nokia Communication Center. This, if successful, will become part of Nokia PC Suite, producing a simplified interface for managing contacts and messaging. The key features are:

  • Create and send messages easily
  • Receive, view, forward, and reply to messages as they arrive
  • Compose multimedia messages effortlessly with easy access to the images on both PC and device
  • Manage messages, and sort and group them to quickly find what you are looking for
  • Display all your messages in a timeline
  • Manage all the contacts stored on your device
  • Add new contacts with ease
  • Create contact cards complete with thumbnail images

This looks good, and seems to combine the current PC Suite with some of the Vista addons (eg Text Messenger) and also covering Nokia LifeBlog. Overall, if this does become part of the PC Suite it should make it easier to work out which app to run on your PC.

On the subject of improving their applications, Nokia have also announced their Nokia Location Beta has received what’s likely to be the last update. Once this last beta round is complete, the program will be put into the Archive category, with no more development planned on the application. However, Nokia have announced that a productized version will be included in future Nokia devices (and let’s hope it’s also made available via firmware updates for current devices too).
